The Problem

The emergency management agency lacked a cohesive and well-communicated staff training program. The training program in place was led by individual program managers and not standardized across the agency. The program also lacked a centralized and comprehensive tracking and reporting system. Therefore, there was no oversight or transparency into the training required and recommended for each position. No complete records of each employee’s training completions existed in one central location.

The Solution

A formalized internal program that is transparent, well-communicated, cohesive, and administered consistently across programs and departments will ensure that all staff know from their first day with the agency what training is required and recommended for their positions and all others in the agency. This will allow staff to ensure they can perform at their best and opens the opportunity for cross-training. The program will utilize existing and new software programs to house training modules and communicate tracking and reporting efficiently to both staff and program managers.
